IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler (TWS) LoadLeveler permite a los usuarios ejecutar más trabajos en menos tiempo

Se trata de un sistema de planificación en paralelo que combina las necesidades de proceso y la prioridad de cada trabajo con los recursos disponibles y las instrucciones especiales para aprovechar los recursos al máximo.

  • Proporciona un control perfecto de los recursos y puede limitar el uso de las máquinas individuales a horas determinadas, usuarios o tipos de trabajos, o bien utilizar las máquinas únicamente cuando el teclado y el ratón están inactivos.
  • Realiza un seguimiento de los todos los recursos que utiliza cada trabajo en serie o en paralelo y ofrece varias opciones de informes para realizar el seguimiento de los trabajos y de la utilización por usuario, grupo, cuenta o tipo durante un periodo específico de tiempo.
  • Puede tener en cuenta la velocidad de la máquina para ajustar las tarifas de cargo y se puede configurar para que requiera una cuenta para cada trabajo y así dar soporte a los cargos por el uso de los recursos.
  • Ofrece una interfaz de línea de mandatos y una interfaz gráfica, además de la interfaz de programación de aplicaciones, para que las aplicaciones grabadas por los usuarios puedan controlarla.
  • Admite configuraciones de alta disponibilidad para garantizar un funcionamiento fiable, y supervisa de forma automática los recursos informáticos disponibles para que no se planifiquen trabajos en máquinas con errores.
  • Se integra con AIX Workload Manager (WLM) y con el hardware IBM High Performance Switch (HPS) for System p, e incluye un algoritmo para máquinas BG/L de Blue Gene.

IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler (TWS) LoadLeveler® is a parallel job scheduling system that allows users to run more jobs in less time by matching each job's processing needs and priority with the available resources, thereby maximizing resource utilization.

When jobs are submitted to TWS LoadLeveler, they are not necessarily executed in the order of submission. Instead, TWS LoadLeveler dispatches jobs based on their priority, resource requirements and special instructions; for example, administrators can specify that long-running jobs run only on off-hours, that short-running jobs be scheduled around long-running jobs or that certain users or groups get priority. In addition, the resources themselves can be tightly controlled: use of individual machines can be limited to specific times, users or job classes or TWS LoadLeveler can use machines only when the keyboard and mouse are inactive.

TWS LoadLeveler tracks the total resources used by each serial or parallel job and offers several reporting options to track jobs and utilization by user, group, account or type over a specified time period. To support chargeback for resource use, TWS LoadLeveler can incorporate machine speed to adjust chargeback rates and be configured to require an account for each job.

TWS LoadLeveler offers both a command line interface and a graphical interface in addition to an API enabling user-written applications to control it. TWS LoadLeveler also supports high availability configurations to ensure reliable operation and automatically monitors the available compute resources to ensure no jobs are scheduled to failed machines.
