WebSphere Studio Asset Analyzer durchsucht die Softwareressourcen von Großrechnern und verteilten Systemen und speichert die Informationen über zugehörige Anwendungen in einem DB2-Repository auf dem Mainframe-Computer. Sie brauchen weder die Liste Ihrer z9- und System z-Anwendungen auf eine Workstation herunterzuladen noch die Liste Ihrer verteilten Anwendungen auf einen Mainframe-Computer hochzuladen. WebSphere Studio Asset Analyzer durchsucht die jeweilige Quelle – sei es in PDS-/PDSE-Datenbeständen auf dem Mainframe-Computer, in Windows- oder AIX-Verzeichnissen oder in etlichen Systemen zur Verwaltung der Softwarekonfiguration (Software Configuration Management Systems, SCMs).
Bei verteilten Ressourcen unterstützt WebSphere Studio Asset Analyzer die Suche ausgehend von IBM Rational ClearCase, CVS und PVCS. Was Mainframeressourcen betrifft, werden Serena ChangeMan ZMF und SCLM unterstützt. Weitere SCMs können durch einen Benutzerexit unterstützt werden. Ein kundenspezifisches Programm ruft das SCM auf. (Dazu ist ein wenig Programmierung erforderlich.) Webanwendungen können von WebSphere Application Servers aus durchsucht werden, die entweder unter Windows oder unter AIX ausgeführt werden. WebSphere Studio Asset Analyzer durchsucht nicht nur die Quelle Ihrer Anwendung, sondern auch CICS- und IMS-Subsysteme von Mainframe-Computern, den DB2-Katalog sowie verteilte WebSphere Application Server-Domänen.
