Fault Analyzer for z/OS

IBM® Fault Analyzer for z/OS® assists developers in analyzing and fixing application and system failures.

When one of your applications ends abnormally, it helps you identify the cause, analyze the failure and fix the problem.

• Provides support for analyzing CICS® application and system failures, WebSphere® Application Server for z/OS system failures, WebSphere MQ application failures, IMS™ application failures and DB2® application failures
• Helps you analyze failures when they occur or reanalyze them after the fact
• Expands error messages and codes that apply to your failure with interactive reanalysis and includes a feature for using application-specific messages and codes to supplement those supplied by IBM

• It gathers information about an application and the surrounding environment at the time of an abnormal end (abend), providing you with the valuable information you need to develop and test your applications.

• Because it only runs when your application fails, it saves your processing resources for other tasks when your application is operating normally.

• There is no need to recompile programs or change the job control language because Fault Analysis starts automatically when an application fails.

• Error messages and codes that apply to your failure are easy to understand.

• After analyzing information about your application and its environment, it generates an analysis report that describes the problem in terms of application codes so that you are not forced to interpret a low-level system dump or system-level error messages. The reason for the abend is made available to you sooner and with less effort.

• Analysis engine: The result of the collective debugging experience of leading IBM software architects, developers and testers, this engine is the core of Fault Analyzer for z/OS®. The engine provides automatic analysis when the application fails, application-initiated analysis for the program SNAP interface and user-initiated fault reanalysis.

• Real-time abnormal end (abend) analysis: When a program fails, Fault Analyzer for z/OS activates automatically from an appropriate exit of the processing environment and records details about the abend in a fault history file.

• Fault reanalysis: With this feature, you can extract more information about a failure by initiating either a batch fault reanalysis or interactive reanalysis.

• Fault history files: These extended, partitioned data sets contain information about the faults that have been analyzed.

• Support for multiple application environments: Fault Analyzer supports applications running on z/OS and OS/390® in these environments: COBOL, PL/I, Assembler, C/C++, Language Environment, UNIX® System Services, CICS®, IMS™, DB2®, WebSphere®, WebSphere MQ and Java™
