IBM® WebSphere® Application Server Hypervisor Edition enables you to build, run, integrate and manage service-oriented architecture (SOA) applications and services in virtualized environments. It offers the features of the IBM WebSphere Application Server family—including simplified development, high availability and intelligent management—and optimizes them for server virtualization settings.

WebSphere Application Server Hypervisor Edition provides:

A virtual appliance model

Supports the Open Virtualization Format (OVF) standard.
Allows you to deploy virtual images into environments running hypervisors such as VMware ESX, IBM PowerVM® and IBM z/VM®.
Allows a single machine to be partitioned into multiple smaller virtual machines to help increase hardware utilization.
Can be preloaded on IBM Workload Deployer, allowing you to deploy and manage SOA applications and services in a private cloud.

Java EE and broad programming model support

Provides Java Enterprise Edition (Java EE) support and certification.
Supports programming models such as Open Services Gateway initiative (OSGi) applications, Web 2.0 and Mobile, Java batch, XML, dynamic scripting, Service Component Architecture (SCA), Communications Enabled Applications (CEA) and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP).
Supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise in both x86 and IBM z/VM environments.

Faster, more efficient deployment and management

Is preloaded on IBM Workload Deployer to easily deploy and manage SOA applications and services in a private cloud.
Provides health management and service policy management to help you make resource allocation decisions based on demand and configured policies.
Allows faster deployment of application foundation topologies and brings simplified maintenance to IBM WebSphere environments in the cloud.
Offers dynamic clustering to help ensure workloads are prioritized and efficiently distributed.
Uses edge components, which offer load balancing, caching and centralized security for enhanced performance at the edge of the network.

Enhanced security and control

Supports Kerberos authentication and single sign-on.
Provides Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) token support.
Filters records based on the content of log and trace record extensions. Tracks the unique IDs of requests.
Enables you to audit changes made to your application server configuration using repository checkpoints.
