Known Issues and Limitations
Comparing with Lotus Symphony 1.2 on Windows and Linux, features below are not provided:
- Mail Merge
- DataPilot
- Programmability Toolkit
Graphics with text cannot be copied to other applications
In Lotus Symphony Spreadsheets and Lotus Symphony Presentations, insert a graphic and enter text into it, and then copy the graphic to another editor, or to Lotus Notes, the text inside the graphic might be lost.
Forms are not saved correctly in .PPT format
If a Lotus Symphony Presentations document that contains forms is saved as a Microsoft PowerPoint (.PPT) file, and is then re-opened by PowerPoint, the forms in that document will display as blank rectangular frames.
Tables in Lotus Notes cannot be copied to Lotus Symphony Presentations
Select and copy a table in Lotus Notes, and then paste it into Lotus Symphony Presentations. The result is that only the table text remains.
Animation on child objects in a group cannot be pasted
Mark several objects into one group, enter the group and set animations to the child object. When you copy and paste the group, the animations in the child object cannot be duplicated.
"Reversing Path Direction" is not supported for animation effect
"Reversing Path Direction" is an attribute for the 'Motion Paths' animation effects in Microsoft PowerPoint. This attribute is not supported in Lotus Symphony Presentations. If this attribute is set to 'True', there will be no animation effect.
Formula result is incorrectly shown when opening a Lotus 123 file
If a Lotus 1-2-3 file which contains formula text in cell with "Text Formula" style is opened by Lotus Symphony, the calculated formula result will be displayed (this is different from the title "incorrectly shown". Please check).
Saving unsupported document type might cause data loss
Unsupported document types can be opened by altering their extensions, but this might cause data loss when the file is saved back. For example, changing a .HTML file into a .SXW file and opening it might result in the document content being lost when subsequently saving the file.
Colors setting cannot be applied or restored correctly
Modifications on colors settings in File > Preferences(bold font) cannot be applied by clicking the Apply(bold) button. As a workaround, click Modify(bold) to apply the modifications.
After completing modifications, clicking Restore Defaults will not restore the default colors setting.
Users cannot Undo if a document is not completely loaded
The "Undo" command does not work when a document is still loading (for example, if the page number in the status bar keeps on increasing), until that loading is finished.
TOC hyperlink in MS Word document does not work in Lotus Symphony
When an MS Word document with a TOC is opened by Lotus Symphony, the TOC hyperlink doesn't work as expected.
Workaround:
Select TOC and launch context menu, choose update Index/Table. The TOC hyperlink will be enabled.
Hyperlink target might be changed if pasted from Lotus Symphony Documents
In Lotus Symphony Documents, copy a hyperlink with non-empty frame type to other applications, the pasted hyperlink target will be appended with the frame type text. Then activating the hyperlink won't go to the target URL correctly.
Workaround:
Edit the pasted hyperlink and remove the appended frame type text from target URL. The hyperlink activation will be correct.
Order of animation might be changed after pasting multi objects
Create several objects in one page and set animations separately. Copy these objects and paste them to another page, the animation effect order might be different from previous. The pasted animation will be sorted by original object's created time order, not the animation setting order.
Workaround: adjust the animations in the pasted object.
Note: If the whole page is copied and pasted, the animation's order will be correct.
Portrait orientation might be changed when opening Freelance files
If a SmartSuite Freelance file which is set with Portrait page orientation is opened by Lotus Symphony, the page orientation might be changed to Landscape.
Workaround:
Users can modify the page orientation in the page properties dialog.
ODF file association is overwritten
ODF(.odt, .ott, .ods, .ots, .odp, and .otp) or OO1.0(.sxw, .sxi, .sxc, .stw, .sti, .stc) file types are overwritten when you install Lotus Symphony. If you want to change the association, consult your system administrator. The following gives one possible way to change the association of certain file extensions:
- In Finder, right-click a file with the extension of which the association you want to change, and click Get Info.
- In the Open With section, click the program that you want to use to open the file, or click Other... to choose the program on a disk.
- Click Change All... and click continue to confirm the change.
Some customized Preferences settings are not kept after upgrade
If you are internal users of previous Lotus Symphony release on Mac OS X, some Lotus Symphony customized preferences settings will be lost after upgrade. Users need to recover the preferences settings manually. The default settings will remain unchanged after upgrade.
Workaround:
Reconfigure those customized preferences settings manually after upgrade.
Lotus Symphony might crash after cancelling the printing of a large document
If a document printing is cancelled, and users try to create a new document or do operation on current document immediately, Lotus Symphony might crash.
Workaround:
Wait for a while before doing other operations.
Floating window cannot be resized.
The Package For The Web utility only supports English
The very first unpack progress dialog from PFTW (Package For The Web) utility doesn't support translation, so it always keeps in English.
Main menu of spreadsheets loses after cell protection dialog is closed.
Type in a cell of a protected sheet. A message box "Protected cells can not be modified" displays. Close the dialog. The main menu of Lotus Symphony gets lost.
Workaround: The main menu can be restored by double-clicking on a protected cell or creating a new document.
Microsoft OLE Object cannot be pasted into Lotus Symphony
Objects like shape and Chart from Microsoft Office 2008 on Mac OS X can't be pasted into Lotus Symphony as Microsoft Office Object through paste special. Lotus Symphony can crash in presentations.
Workaround: They can be pasted into Lotus Symphony as graphic.
Floating windows, like Navigator, style list and sidebar(in float mode) cannot be resized.
