Symphony Range only hides after protect is on?

Greg Cowtan, using Lotus Symphony 3
I want to hide a row from my users but allow them to work on the spreadsheet in all the other columns. Can this be done?
From the look of the user guide it cannot be hidden until you protect the sheet....?
