Could you make the url a link at least? The url isn't the most memorable one either what gives?

I did include the URL but it was buried in the article. Here you go:

    http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/lswiki.nsf

Liam, I don't think the issue Jack was raising was the absence of the URL, I think the issue he was raising is that is not a clickable link. It requires the user to either cut/paste the URL or retype it.

    Fixed!

It is a great product. I have used everything from Lotus 123, Wordperfect, Micro$oft Word and StarOffice. Symphony is fast lightweight and the interface is great. Well done IBM Lotus.

I tried to use Lotus 123 files. Lotus Symphony always answered no recognation of files - What for future?

Michael Mullins says ''i have used everything from lotus 123'' - I don't understand.

Wiki, schmiki! I downloaded Symphony in hopes that there would be a seamless translation between my Freelance Graphics files and either Open Office 3.0 or Micro$oft Powerpoint., as there is between Open Office 3.0 and Powerpoint. Not only isn't there, teh Symphony presentation does not translate 1:1 to Open Office!!!

Why oh why couldn't IBM have just added the translation files as extentions to Open Office? It would have cost less and been fore functional. I guess IBM JUST DOES NOT GET IT WHEN IT COMES TO OPEN SOFTWARE.

Been a faithful user of IBM since the 90's, didn't get lotus until '05, loved it. Tested the betas of Lotus Symphony, loved them as well. It will be nice to have a cheaper alternative to Office and a lighter alternative to OO. Thanks Guys!

Is there a facility for opening original .sam files?
  • Jack Dewar said on Feb 2, 2009 8:32 PM:

Q..Why did IBM not just produce an updated version of Lotus Smartsuite to run on Microsoft Vista .THIS IS NOT A LEGACY NOSTALGIA RANT! [Lotus 123 (& Amipro) are still superior in many ways to their successors.]

A.. Perhaps it was a case of "not invented here ! "

I downloaded the free Lotus Symphony program but cannot install it on my XP Pro machine. After spending a fair amount of time installing, it suddenly put up a window that said:

Could not copy file: (5)Access is denied.

    Old Path: C:\Documents and Settings\Russ\install.xml,

    New Path: C:\Program Files\IBM\Lotus\Symphony\framework\rcp\deploy\install.xml

What gives??? (I am the administrator.) Tried 3 separate times.

Been using 123 for years & never really warmed up to Excel (okay, I can say dynosaur). Transition to Symphony spreadsheets seems more doable, but graphing can't be as restricted as I'm finding. Among the many resources 'out there' are there any that stand out for creative graphing in Symphony?
  • hippo said on Feb 16, 2009 7:27 AM:

To Russ: execute setup.exe as local administrator, that solved the problem on my PC.

How do I add URL links in rich text docs here ? If I use Hyperlink function, it always inserts http at the front, Document type of hyper link always inserts ancor # in front. While I have an internet URL with a protocol different from http. ?

Why in the world can't I open Lotus 123 files in Lotus Symphony? I thought that was the point. Lotus 123 ver 9.0 won't run in Windows 7 Pro environment. Am I going to be FORCED to use Excel?
  • Isabel Williams said on Jan 4, 2011 4:39 PM:

Although the Onboard Help states that one can open .123 files and shows what formats to choose from, i.e : ODF Spreadsheet (.ods) ; Microsoft Excell 97/200 (.xls, .xlw) ; Text CSV (.csv, .txt) Lotus 1-2-3 (.123)

The option of choosing .123 simply does not exist in Symphony 3. Is this an install error or a bug? What can be done about this?
