It would be nice if you would state which "common problem that was reported by many of you on our support forums". I don't want to download and re-install the whole thing if it isn't something that affects me. Please advise what this common problem is that has been fixed.
  • Bidouille said on Mar 4, 2008 11:56 AM:

Agree with Dave, thanks to publish the fixed buglist
  • Hoffie said on Mar 4, 2008 3:55 PM:

I also agree. The (most important?) answer to our question is found in the forum here:

    http://symphony.lotus.com/software/lotus/symphony/supportThread.jspa?threadID=4214

...but, a buglist with the major stuff that may hurt should not hurt IBM, as it makes for a bit of professionality (and saves some vain effort, i.e. multiple posts) ;-)
  • Hoffie said on Mar 4, 2008 3:58 PM:

I forgot my "thank you" for fixing that "error opening file" problem with priority! Yes!
  • Jim said on Mar 4, 2008 4:57 PM:

Thanks for the fixes - obviously a lot of work going into this. Except, of course, it still doesn't work on my system, so it does nothing for me.

Any word on when an OS X version will be coming out?
  • name the install files with the version said on Mar 4, 2008 5:34 PM:

It would also be nice if the installation files had the updated version number. So the last few updates including the most recent Beta4 update might look like....

    IBM_Lotus_Symphony_w32_b3.exe

    IBM_Lotus_Symphony_w32_b4.exe

    IBM_Lotus_Symphony_w32_b4a.exe
  • Jeff said on Mar 4, 2008 5:35 PM:

Oooops. I didn't realize that was a name instead of subject field.

"name the install files with the version says"

    That's me.
  • Fran said on Mar 6, 2008 3:11 AM:

The Symphony itself should advice there's a new version and ask if you want to installed.

Still does not support PPS file formats and all the friends send the stories on this format.
  • Manoj said on Mar 7, 2008 6:30 AM:

    Should add databse in Symphony
  • Carlo said on Mar 8, 2008 3:06 AM:

It would be nice to have a tool for drawing professional diagrams, for example UML and network diagrams.

    Thanks a lot!
  • Marcus said on Mar 9, 2008 12:11 PM:

From lotus smartsuite I know the interactiv boxes to format all. Wy dont you integrat these boxes in lotus symphony. This feature is the best I ever found in all known office-softwares!
  • Luke said on Mar 10, 2008 11:17 AM:

I agree totally with Manoj and Marcus: the best two solutions of Smarsuite are not in Symphony! this is not an improvement ... isn't it? :-)

    Thanks as well
  • Dave M said on Mar 11, 2008 7:52 AM:

What happened to the Mac OS X version? It was widely reported that it would be available over a month ago.

  • Tony Charvat said on Mar 13, 2008 4:24 PM:

I'm running Windows XP and installed the latest Beta 4 update yesterday but am still having 2 system errors. #1='soffice' terminates while exiting Symphony and #2='Documents' terminates after processing several different documents simultaneously. I even tried quitting each older document never having more than 2 up at a time.
  • Thomas said on Mar 13, 2008 8:52 PM:

I can only second Marcus commnent about the interactive format boxes. Unless this feature is integrated in future beta versions or at least in the final release, the symphony package will be just as awkward to work with as Microsoft or Open Office.

Once again, I just got an aneurysm trying to get an application running in access, please bring back Aproach...
  • Vince said on Mar 19, 2008 6:24 PM:

I tried downloading Lotus Symphony Beta 4 to my Vista laptop and then launching the installation. I received error message, "Error launching IBM_Lotus_Symphony_w32.exe" I contacted via email the support department, was told to download from website they included in response note but I get the same error message. What do I have to do to download and install Lotus Symphony Beta 4?
  • Tinyface said on Mar 19, 2008 6:50 PM:

I'm using IBM Lotus Symphony Beta 4 for Windows Japanese 2008-02-01 on Windows XP SP2.

I had encountered an installation problem in using Japanese characters as my user account.

So many users in Japan set the user account in Japanese characters, that they cannot

use the fantastic Symphnoy at the beginning of the installation.

Although I tried the latest version, 2008-03-03, the problem is not fixed.

I wish for Japanese users the problem will be fixed as soon as possible.

    Thanks.
  • Guest said on Mar 20, 2008 10:56 PM:

    Hi Vince,

    This is Supportadmin5 here.

Please ensure the IBM_Lotus_Symphony_w32.exe you downloaded is exactly 191,748KB in size, Otherwise you have to re-download it from homepage.

By default, Download Director will create a folder under c:\Setup and put the downloaded file to that directory, so you can check if you can double click the application there to start installation.
  • Guest said on Mar 20, 2008 11:05 PM:

    Hi Tinyface,

Your voice is highly respected as the issue might be a obstacle when deploying Symphony in Enterprise desktop environment.

As you know, changing the path TEMP environment variable to C:\Temp will make the installation go through successfully, we are still trying to get fixed in the near future, if you have any further ideas, please let us know by posting in forum.
  • steve said on Mar 23, 2008 8:49 PM:

    What about OS X?
  • Guest said on Mar 25, 2008 8:01 AM:

It is very unfortunate that the Lotus Symphony development team has chosen to stay quiet about any development work on an OSX port. With the exception of a couple of replies to posts along the lines of 'it's in the development path.....' there has been absolutely no information forthcoming. Considering the long stretches of time elapsing between any statements about an OSX release it begins to appear that it may in fact be vapor-ware.
  • Guest said on Mar 25, 2008 3:12 PM:

And.. I could be mistaken, it could be that people are working so hard that they don't have the time to come tell us how great it's gong :)
  • Product Manager1 said on Mar 25, 2008 9:28 PM:

OS X is coming .. I demoed an alpha version in January at Lotusphere. We are looking at June for its first release. We are holding it back a little longer to improve the code.
  • Ter said on Mar 26, 2008 12:03 AM:

    To Product Manager1

Thanks for the update on the status for OSX. As 'Guest Mar 25, 2008 6:01 AM' has noted it is the apparent lack of information regarding the OSX build that has people thinking that it isn't going to happen. Would you consider a separate forum thread for OSX where status updates or notifications could be published? Communication is a vital part of marketing........

    Thanks for the update

  • Microsoft Office 2007 files support? said on Apr 29, 2008 4:16 PM:

Symphony isn't going anywhere until you provide support for Office 2007 files.
  • Paul said on Apr 29, 2008 4:39 PM:

This looks so promising, but with no updates or news in nearly 2 months it's starting to look like the project has died.

I also think that both Office 2007 and Mac support are required before this project can be taken seriously, so hopefully the silence means they have been busy working and are about to release a new version?
  • Ivan Zubkov said on May 1, 2008 8:28 PM:

Considering the consistent growth of mac user base, it is imperative to have an OS X version. Also to keep in mind is Microsoft's mistake: Office 2008 for mac is a bloated buggy behemoth. I hope that Symphony will play harmoniously with mac:)
  • Paul said on May 8, 2008 3:48 PM:

Sometimes when I'm working in Symphony spreadsheets or word it hangs Notes 8 and Notes crashes.

How do I fix this or work around it? tia

Pitty about the browser not having a favorites system. Also missing the ability to programme default url's for browser tabs.

Somehow one would expect the browser to have some sort of setup area - am I missing something ?
  • Owen said on May 12, 2008 10:40 AM:

I installed Lotus symphony today, it's the first time I tried IBM software. The symphony opened a little bit slow, maybe due to the lower version of OS (vista home basic). Anyway, I feel the lotus is much more exciting than the ubiquitous Microsoft software. Is Lotus Notes free? or how much it will cost in mainland China? will it be compatible with windows mail? I'd like to try Lotus notes to send emails.
  • Linda said on May 19, 2008 3:19 AM:

The sorting doesn' work for whole selection for Spreadsheet, it only sorting the selected column. Is this serious bug fixed in recent build? Thanks.

Running on an XP Pro Desktop, Symphony takes a lot of time to start, much more than Open Office. A database in Symphony would be more than welcome, Something like MS Access or a revamped Lotus Approach, but not like the Open Office database that looks like an unfinished prototype and not like a usable product. I could then get rid of the overpriced MS Office!
  • Manolis said on May 23, 2008 11:19 AM:

Lotus Symphony doesn't recognize pivot tables made in MS Excel. It's also very slow when opening a big file.

It takes about15 minutes to open an Excel of 70MB with pivots etc. whereas MS-Excel opens it in a few seconds.

Unfortunately, long way with hard work needed to catch up MS-Office capabilities and speed. It's good but only for elementary users having to deal with a couple of pages of Word Processing and a couple of simple worksheets of a Spreadsheet. I wish Symphony is improved in the future.

Seems rather good up to how. I have a book of some 110.000 words on it and it sems quite happy, but the spell checker is not too hot. And I am such a rotten typist! Using XP.
