“ IBM is a pioneer when it comes to implementing cloud data solutions on a global scale, so as we evolve the company and expand in other markets it's very important that we have a partner with the right solutions and global scale. ”
Jeff Donaldson, Senior Vice President, GameStop Technology Institute
GameStop Corp. is a retailer of video games, consumer electronics and wireless services. Headquartered in Grapevine, Texas, GameStop operates more than 6,000 stores throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Europe. It employs approximately 17,000 people, and its annual revenue exceeded USD 9 billion in 2014.
Today’s tech-savvy video game enthusiasts can download nearly all of their games directly onto their consoles. To remain relevant in this increasingly digital space, GameStop need to identify and develop compelling retail applications to keep customers coming to its stores and helping the company remain a successful video game retailer.
GameStop worked with an IBM jStart Emerging Technologies team to develop a new platform for retail innovation. All the information now resides in the Bluemix environment, which includes an IBM dashDB data warehousing solution running on SoftLayer technology.
The IBM Bluemix solution with IBM dashDB and IBM Cloudant provides GameStop and GTI with a flexible and reliable platform for developing and testing innovative new applications that will help it remain a key player in the video game industry. The platform also supports further innovation as the video game market evolves, helping GameStop remain an industry leader.
