Overview

Hothead Games is an award-winning independent games development studio founded in 2006. Focused on developing and publishing high-quality games for mobile gamers, Hothead has developed games for Apple’s App Store, Google’s Play Store, Amazon’s Appstore, and Barnes and Nobles’ Nook App Store.

Business need
When its Big Win Soccer game hit number one just two days after release, bringing enormous growth in user numbers, Hothead Games knew it needed a more scalable database to sustain its rapid growth.

Solution
The IBM Cloudant Dedicated Cluster solution was the solution of choice because its NoSQL approach and scale-out architecture could support rapid growth and massive workloads. Fault-tolerance was another advantage with data distributed across several data centers for high availability, and a RESTful, CouchDB solution-compatible application program interface (API) made migration and new development a snap.

Benefits
The IBM Cloudant Dedicated Cluster solution provided the following benefits: the database-as-a service solution provided the needed operational data store to support applications that require massive concurrent mix of low-latency read and writes; the solution successfully addressed data durability demands; provided replication and sync capabilities that the client needed across geographically distributed data generation and for mobile devices and multiple platforms.
