The base elements deliver essential operating system functions. When you
order OS/390, you receive all of the base elements. The optional features
are orderable with OS/390. They provide additional operating system
function. Many of the optional features are priced; however, some are
unpriced (free), as indicated below.

LAN Server
Base element
- LAN Server lets LAN workstation users store and share data and applications
in a central location on a S/390, which allows the large storage capacity of an
S/390 to relieve the capacity constraints of workstation-based servers.
LAN Server is being removed from OS/390 because the prerequisite OS/2 software
is no longer available.
OS/390 V2R10 has only the host component.
OS/390 V2R9 was the last release to include both the workstation (on diskettes)
and host components.
After OS/390 V2R10, neither component will be available.
OS/390 V2R10 still supports the OS/2 Front End Processor configurations from
previous releases of LAN Server.
