Tips for searching titles, name or doc numbers using BookServer

Examples and guidelines

You would like to find the the following book:

IOCP User's Guide and ESCON CTC Reference
     DA5A4008
     GC38-0401-08

You remember only part of the book's title, order number, or filename.

What can you type in the Find field that will ensure a match?

Successful search strategies

  • Type any single word or part of a word

For example, if you search using any of the following strings, the search results you receive will display the IOCP book you're looking for and all other books that contain these words or parts of a word:

    Match:

      IOCP
      ESCON
      DA5A4
      GC38-0401

  • Use the question mark (?)--the single-character wildcard--to substitute for a single character anywhere in a word
    Match:

      IO?P
      ES?ON
      DA5A4?0
      GC38?0401

Not a match or an incorrect match:

      IO??P
      ES??ON
      DA5A4??0
      GC38??0401

  • Use the asterisk (*)--the multiple-character wildcard--to substitute for one or more characters anywhere in a word or series of words
    Match:

      IOCP*ESCON
      DA5A4*8
      GC38*08

If you type more than one word of a title, they must be in the correct order. Use the asterisk (*) to substitute for intervening words.

    Match:

      IOCP User's
      IOCP*Guide

    Not a Match:

      User's IOCP
      (words not in correct order)

      IOCP Guide
(asterisk not used for intervening words)
