z/VM: Virtual Machine
z/VM, the newest VM operating system, is the brain behind the software side of virtualization technology.  z/VM 5.1, recently announced, is scheduled to become available on September 24, 2004.

A few business tips
z/VM supports test and development servers on the same hardware which can improve resource utilization. You may be able to deploy new servers sometimes in minutes, expediting your response to market fluctuations. z/VM may even reduce the need for server and storage hardware, software licensing, floor space and utilities which all contribute to lower TCO.

You can improve security by utilizing HiperSockets for fast inter-server communication. Utilizing HiperSockets, the communication takes place within the System z server eliminating some of the vulnerabilities that can be introduced by an external network. And z/VM may enhance business continuity and disaster recovery by providing support for the latest copy options of the IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Storage Server (ESS) to help ensure that the data and programming vital to the virtual server is available in the event of a disaster. ( HyperSwap, PPRC)

z/VM is ready to help improve your business results by providing a programming and command environment you can use to build automation routines to handle system maintenance, start/restart of servers and other operational and maintenance tasks.
