DB2 V7.5 Server for VM&VSE - 5697-F42

IBM DB2 Server for VSE and VM V7.5 provides the basis for robust  z/VSE solutions as well as enhanced interoperability between z/VSE and distributed platforms such as Linux on System z running applications including DB2 and  WebSphere.

With the new DB2 Runtime only Client editions, you can purchase and use only the DB2 client, without having to pay for the database server. The Client Edition comes with some enhanced features and improved performance to help integrate z/VSE and Linux on System z.

IBM DB2 Server for VSE and VM V7.5 is the basis for a robust on demand business environment because of its reliability, scalability, manageability, and interoperability with on demand platform applications such as WebSphere.
Now with the new design of the Data Propagator (DPROPR) Capture feature, Data Propagator Q Capture, VSE and VM customers can have a powerful relational database solution that enables business intelligence solutions for the enterprise.

Data Propagator Q Capture supports the DB2 Universal Database (UDB) V8.2 architecture of Q-Replication and supports the use of WebSphere MQ to deliver transactions to be replicated by Q Apply instead of using change data tables.
With Data Propagator Q Capture, the complete replication solution for VSE and VM customers consists of:

  • Data Propagator Q Capture for VSE and VM
  • DB2 UDB V8.2 Replication Center, running on a non-VSE/VM platform for administration of replication
  • DB2 UDB V8.2 Q Apply, which will run on a non-VSE/VM platform

Q Apply will not be implemented on VSE/VM.

DB2 Server for VSE and VM is a relational database management system that is part of a family of products available on all major industry platforms. DB2 Server for VSE and VM V7.4 fully exploits the optional DB2 features:

  • Data Restore and Control Center at the V7.3 level
  • RXSQL at the V7.1 level
  • QMF at the V7.2 level

DL/I DOS/VS 1.10 and DL/I 1.11 - 5746-XX1
DL/I is short for "Data Language One". The product name for DL/I is DL/I DOS/VS until Release 10. Since Release 11, it is called DL/I VSE.

Data Language/I (DL/I) VSE is the hierarchical database management system for VSE/ESA. Release 11 runs on VSE/ESA Version 2 Release 4 or higher and supports CICS Transaction Server for VSE/ESA Release 1 for online transaction processing. Release 11 is the follow-on release of DL/I designed to replace DL/I DOS/VS. It can coexist with Release 10 (together with on CICS/VSE Version 2 Release 3) on the same VSE/ESA Version 2 Release 4 system or higher.

MQSeries for VSE/ESA 2.1.2 - 5686-A06
MQSeries messaging products enable application integration by helping business applications to exchange information across different platforms by sending and receiving data as messages. They take care of network interfaces, assure 'once only' delivery of messages, deal with communication protocols, dynamically distribute workload across available resources, handle recovery after system problems and help make programs portable. Consequently, programmers can use their skills to handle key business requirements, instead of wrestling with underlying network complexities.

MQSeries provides a consistent multi-platform, application-programming interface. A key factor is time-independent processing. This means that messages are dealt with promptly, even if one of the recipients is temporarily unavailable.

WebSphere MQ Client for VSE

A WebSphere MQ client is part of the product that can be installed on its own, on a separate machine from the base product and server. You can run a WebSphere MQ (MQSeries) application on a WebSphere MQ client and it can interact, by means of a communications protocol, with one or more WebSphere MQ servers and connect to their queue managers.

An application that you want to run in the WebSphere MQ client environment must first be linked with the relevant client library. When the application issues an MQI call, the WebSphere MQ client code directs the request to a queue manager, where it is processed and from where a reply is sent back to the client. The link between the application and the client code is established dynamically at runtime.

The MQI is available to applications running on the client platform; the queues and other WebSphere MQ (MQSeries) objects are held on a queue manager that you have installed on a server machine.

QMF for VSE/ESA 7.2 - 5697-F42
QMF for VSE 7.2 and QMF for Windows V7.2 are features of DB2 Server for VSE and VM, V7.2.

Positioning of QMF is summarized by the phrase "Business Intelligence (BI) starts here." Easy to use and fast to implement, query and reporting tools remain important to DB2 customers for operational and data warehouse query and reporting. Offering such a tool designed specifically for the DB2 enterprise is expected to enhance the success of any BI or data warehouse strategy. By offering fast query performance from the Windows environment, easy integration with and sharing of QMF host objects, browser-based querying, and extensive governing control over user actions and DB2 resource consumption, QMF products are a natural selection over and above any other for customers who have DB2 or are interested in DB2 or other data sources.
