Why don't the documentation collections contain all manuals in PDF format?

Each CD-ROM collection contains all the libraries that are currently available at the time that collection was produced. Many of the older manuals were never provided in PDF format because their original sources are not enabled to be converted to PDF. Please also see the Softcopy FAQs.

How can I order VSE or optional products?

Please refer to the How to buy section.

What is ShopzSeries?

ShopzSeries is IBM's productivity tool for planning and ordering IBM System z software. With ShopzSeries you can:

  • order tailored product and service packages for z/OS and z/OS.e,
  • order tailored product packages for z/VM, VM/ESA, z/VSE and VSE/ESA,
  • review your software licenses in all of these environments, and
  • plan for future upgrades.

For more information please refer to the ShopzSeries User's Guide or FAQs.

Where can I find information about VSE performance?   Please refer to the performance documents in the documentation section.

How many processors can I exploit with VSE?

VSE Turbo Dispatcher supports any numbers of processors, however it is not recommended to use more than 3 processors. To exploit multiple processors, the VSE system must be tuned and the workload must be sufficient.

In general it is better to run on a faster uni-processor system than to run a a slower multi-processor system, even if the sum MIPS are the same.

The number of processors that are exploited by a particular workload can be determined by using the QUERY TD,INTERNAL command. The NP/TOT value is the non-parallel share (NPS):

#CPUs = 0.8 - 0.9 / NPS

Please refer to the performance documents in the documentation section.

Where can I find information about VSE security?

Please refer to the security documents in the documentation section.

Can I still order VSE/ESA 2.7?

While VSE/ESA V2.7 remains a supported release, the ability to order V2.7 has ended on 09/30/2005. To upgrade your system to the most recent level, please upgrade to z/VSE 3.1, or keep your VSE/ESA 2.7 system up to date using VSE Recommended Service Levels.

Can I still order VSE/ESA 2.6?

VSE/ESA V2.6 is the last VSE release to support 'pre-G5' servers including ES/9000 (ie. 9221, 9121, and 9021), IBM 9672-Rx1 (G1), IBM 9672 G2/G3/G4, Multiprise 2000, P390, R390, IBM S/390 Integrated Server, and equivalent.

While VSE/ESA V2.6 remains a supported release until 3/2006, the ability to order V2.6 has ended with the General Availability of VSE/ESA V2.7 on 3/14/2003. The VSE/ESA V2.6.3 'service option' is no longer available with VSE/ESA V2.7.3. To upgrade your system to the most recent level, please upgrade to z/VSE 3.1, or keep your VSE/ESA 2.6 system up to date using VSE Recommended Service Levels.
