This sample service definition is provided by the Washington Systems Center, and is intended to give examples of the various WLM constructs. If you download this service definition, you should make all of the changes appropriate to your installation before activating any policy. See the "Notepad Information" at the bottom of the HTML file for some specific recommendations.
This service definition is designed for use in a sysplex with all systems running OS/390 Release 6 or later.
Systems at this level support a service definition functionality level of LEVEL006 or higher. If you wish to use this service definition with systems running earlier levels of the operating system, please see the "Workload Management Migration" chapter in OS/390 MVS Planning: Workload Management (GC28-1761) for the operational implications of doing so. At least one system in the sysplex must be running OS/390 Release 6 or higher in order to update the active WLM policy using this service definition.
In addition, if you are using this service definition on a release below OS/390 Release 10, you will need to install the compatibility APAR OW43856.

To download the PDS for this service definition, follow these steps:
- Click here to save the WLMSAMP.BIN file to your PC. You can rename the file to anything you wish when you save it.
- Transfer the saved file from your PC to the mainframe in binary format as a sequential data set (fixed block, 80 lrecl). Give it any name you wish. Please remember that the transfer must be in BINARY mode, FB, lrecl 80.
- On your MVS system, at the TSO ready command line or ISPF option 6, issue:
receive indsn(filename)
Where filename is the filename you used when transferring in step 2.
- You will receive the message
Enter restore parameters or 'DELETE' or 'END' +
Enter:
restore dsn(pdsname)
Where pdsname is the name you want for the PDS.
- Now that this PDS has been created, invoke the WLM ISPF Application to view and make changes to the service definition.
