z/OS Capacity Provisioning

z/OS Capacity Provisioning is now available on z/OS V1.9 with APAR OA20824.

The Capacity Provisioning Manager can monitor business-critical workloads that are running on z/OS systems on IBM System z10 Enterprise Class servers.

The Provisioning Manager obtains z/OS Workload Manager performance metrics from the z/OS Resource Measurement Facility (RMF). If the performance and capacity data indicate that a workload is missing its goal, and a lack of processor resources is identified as an important reason for this, the Provisioning Manager can either recommend appropriate actions, or automatically activate and deactivate additional temporary capacity if it has been suitably configured.

Using policies for the Provisioning Manager, you can define workloads that are to be observed and also conditions that specify under what circumstances additional resources may be warranted.
