System z9 exploitation support

With APAR  OA18737 you can exploit new functionality provided by the hardware interface of SE/HMC Consoles Version 2.9.1 or later.

Based on new functions described in  System z: Application Programming Interfaces (SB10-7030-08), the following Processor Operations common commands have been added or modified:

  • The new hardware command, CTRLCONS, can be used to perform:
    • A shutdown or restart of the SE or HMC console
    • A restart of the SE or HMC Console Application
  • The new hardware command, OOCOD, can be used to manage the On/Off Capacity on Demand capabilities of System z9 hardware, as follows:
    • Query the On/Off Capacity on Demand status
    • Activate an On/Off Capacity on Demand contract
    • Deactivate an On/Off Capacity on Demand contract
  • Two changes to the PROFILE common command:
    1. The PROFILE 'READ' and 'UPDATE' command for IMAGE profiles has been enhanced with a new parameter to specify the processor type the command should be executed for. The following special processor types are supported:
      • IFA: Integrated Facility for Applications processor
      • IFL: Integrated Facility for Linux processor
      • ICF: Internal Coupling Facility processor
      • IIP: z9 Integrated Information Processor
    2. The PROFILE 'READ' and 'UPDATE' command for RESET profiles has been enhanced with 3 new profile values for Time Slice handling. You can use the new profile values to define whether the processor running time is dynamically determined by the system or set to a constant value for the defined CPC object
  • The ICNTL (Image Control) common command has been enhanced with a new parameter to specify the processor type the command should be executed for. The following special processor types are supported:
    • IFA: Integrated Facility for Applications processor
    • IFL: Integrated Facility for Linux processor
    • ICF: Internal Coupling Facility processor
    • IIP: z9 Integrated Information Processor

This new functionality is introduced via APAR  OA18737 for SA z/OS 3.1 and is available on IBM System z9 hardware only.
