Improved hardware interface performance

Processor Operations hardware interface processing has been changed to enhance peformance for both SNMP and BCP internal interface (BCPii) connections. These changes:

  • Avoid automation delays
  • Build a more reliable external automation base for new processors with an increasing number of LPARs
  • Allow a more reliable execution of parallel IPLs over the BCPii

The major improvements include:

  • The INGHWCOM module's memory management has been changed from task level storage to NetView global storage to allow cross task memory sharing.
  • INGHWCOM command processing now runs in user tasks. Thus the event processing of INGHWCOM in the HW communication task is no longer interrupted by regular command requests.
  • ISQSEND and ISQCCMD processing is now based on a command completion flag (common global variable) that is maintained without using message TRAPs and thus increases performance.
  • CPCDATA performance has been improved for SNMP connections by introducing new ISQCCMD common commands that allow the retrieval of subsets of the information that is provided by CPCDATA.
  • A base to support the new functions of the System z9 family.

This new function is introduced via APARs  OA17693 (for SA z/OS 3.1) and OA17690 (for SA z/OS 2.3).
