SA z/OS Discovery Library Adapter

The SA z/OS Discovery Library Adapter (DLA) discovers SA z/OS configuration data, which is primarily SA z/OS resources and their relationships, for all systems that are controlled by the automation manager within a sysplex (including systems that are running an earlier version of SA z/OS). It discovers this data for the following resources:

  • Subsystems (APLs)
  • Application Groups (APGs)
  • Monitor resources (MTRs)

The following figure shows the various configuration items (CI) that are generated by SA z/OS and their relationships:

In contrast to the z/OS DLA, the discovery domain of the SA z/OS DLA is the entire sysplex or, more accurately, the scope of the automation manager.

Discovery runs in NetView via the INGDLA command issued from a system running SA z/OS 3.2. The command can be invoked either at will by an operator, for example, after a major configuration change, or it can be performed periodically (for example, daily or weekly), driven by a NetView timer.

The INGDLA command queries the automation manager to obtain the list of automated resources (APLs, APGs, and MTRs) and their relationships.

This data is then used to compose the IdML book that describes the SA z/OS configuration. The IdML book is then written into the output data set (along with a few other members that control the generation of the book). The IdML book can then be downloaded to a system running Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager (TADDM), where it can be loaded into CCMDB, along with data from other DLAs.
