This product is the z/OS 31-bit Java product that supplies the Java 1.4.2 APIs. It became generally available in September, 2002 and is periodically updated with cumulative service and improvements.

The IBM SDK for z/OS, Java 2 Technology Edition, Version 1.4 requires either:

• z/OS Version 1 Release 4 or above
• z/OS.e Version 1 Release 4 or above

The IBM SDK for z/OS, Java 2 Technology Edition, Version 1.4 will be serviced through at least September, 2010.

Compatibility:
Most Java applications executed on Java for OS/390 (5655-D35) should run on SDK for z/OS, Java 2 Technology Edition, V1.4 unchanged provided they did not use deprecated Java 2 SDK 1.3 APIs. Additionally, in some cases because of some small number of incompatibilities introduced industry-wide between Java 2 SDK 1.3 and SDK 1.4 APIs, some applications may have to change. Details on these incompatibilities are available at the Sun web site.

SDK for z/OS, Java 2 Technology Edition, V1.4 takes advantage of enhanced z/OS linkage capabilities (XPLINK.) Any code that creates a JVM and interacts with the JVM via Java Native Interface or any other "call" interface must create the Language Environment (LE) enclave specifying that LE should setup an XPLINK environment. This can be done in a variety of ways including setting a run-time option or recompiling the application code to be XPLINK.

Middleware or Java applications intended to support both SDK 1.3 and SDK 1.4 need to be built using SDK 1.3. Middleware or Java applications intended to support only SDK1.4 may be built with either SDK1.3 or SDK1.4.

Getting the Product

Note: As of PTF UQ90449, the SUN SDK level is SDK1.4.2. SUN SDK levels corresponding to previous PTFs, including availability from this website, are in the service summary.

Download the non-SMP/E format of the code. Note: While the recommendation is to take the very latest Service Refresh (SRn) from the download site, SRn-1 (and attendant readme) is also available for download from that site for customer convenience.

The SMP/E installable format of the code is available only through ServerPac or CBPDO
