A book file on the z/OS V1R1 Collection is missing 10 chaptersKnown problems in the June and July 2001 softcopy collections

Here are the known problems in the June and July 2001 editions of the IBM Online Library.

Bookshelf on the OS/390 Collection displays order numbers instead of titles

  • The titles of books are not displayed on the following bookshelf on the June 2001 edition of the OS/390 Collection, SK2T-6700-21. The book order numbers are displayed instead.
    • DGT1BK33.BKS GC35-0400-03 OS/390 V2R10.0 DFSMS Bookshelf
The books can still be opened from the bookshelf.

A corrected bookshelf is available on the OS/390 Internet library and will be included on the September 2001 edition of the collection.

If you uploaded this bookshelf to a repository from the CD-ROM, you can edit the bookshelf file to correct the problem. There is a left parenthesis before each ST value -- there should be a blank. Edit the uploaded bookshelf file and change all "ST (" to "ST " to eliminate the problem parentheses. You might also have to change a hex'00' in column 3 to a hex'40' (blank).

Some bookshelves contain incorrect book titles

  • When you use certain bookshelves on the June 2001 softcopy collections, you might see a test message instead of the actual title for some books. The problem is in the bookshelves and not in the BOOK files. You will not encounter this problem in the bookshelves available from the Internet (such as the z/OS Internet library or the IBM Publication Center). The bookshelves have been fixed for the Internet and future softcopy collections.

  • On the June 2001 edition of the z/OS SecureWay Security Server RACF Collection (SK3T-4272-01), the BookManager and PDF versions of the collection booklet do not list the BookManager and PDF files for z/OS V1R2.0 SecureWay Security Server RACF Macros and Interfaces. The files are named ICHZA310.BOO and ICHZA310.PDF, and are on the collection. They are listed in the HTML collection index.

Problems opening a PDF file on the OS/390 V2R10 PDF Collection

  • On the June 2001 edition of the OS/390 V2R10 PDF Collection, SK2T-6718-12, if you try to view the following PDF file from a CD using Adobe Acrobat 3, Acrobat issues error messages and does not display the book:

The file can be viewed with no problems from the CD using Acrobat 4, on the OS/390 Internet library, and from the IBM Publications Center.

We are not issuing an update to the collection in September. We plan to provide a corrected file on the December 2001 edition.

  Problems opening PDF files

  • You might experience difficulties viewing PDF files depending on the level of your Adobe Acrobat Reader and your Windows platform. In some cases the file does not display, while in others you get a message that the file is being repaired and then it displays. If you have problems, try using a different level of the Adobe Acrobat Reader. You can install an Adobe Acrobat Reader from the collection, or you can download them from the Adobe Web site.

If you are having trouble viewing a PDF file on a CD or the Internet, try downloading the file and viewing it from your hard drive.

 Cross-book linking for older books

  • Cross-book links might not work from old, unchanged books to more recent books. Many bookshelves contain a mix of recent softcopy books and some older softcopy books. Most old softcopy books containing cross-book links are not updated to point to more recent editions of the books they link to. As a result, the links work only for the specific back-level editions that the links point to. When you open one of these old softcopy books from a bookshelf that does not contain the back-level editions the links point to, the links to these back-level books fail.
