Known Problems in the December 2001 Collections

Back-level Text Search book included on several collections

  • A back-level Text Search book was included on a number of bookshelves and in several libraries on the December 2001 collections. Specifically, z/OS V1.1 Text Search: Programming the Text Search Engine, SH12-6717-00, was included on these libraries instead of the current edition of the book, z/OS V1.2 Text Search: Programming the Text Search Engine, SH12-6717-01:
    • z/OS V1R2.0 Text Search PDFs
    • z/OS V1R2.0 Text Search Online Product Library (bookshelf IMO1ZA10)
    • z/OS V1R2.0 Planning and Installation Online Product Library (bookshelf E0Z2IN11)
    • z/OS V1R2.0 Messages and Codes Books Online Product Library (bookshelf EZ2MZ201)
    • All-z/OS Disc 1 Bookshelf (V1R2.0 Base Elements, Optional Features) (bookshelf EZ2ZO103)
    • All-Messages and Codes Disc 1 Bookshelf (bookshelf EZ2MG133)

These bookshelves and libraries are found on the following collections:

    • z/OS V1R2 Collection, SK3T-4269-03
    • z/OS V1R2 and Software Products DVD Collection, SK3T-4271-03
    • Messages and Codes collection, SK2T-2068-33

The affected bookshelves on the z/OS Internet library have been updated to pick up the current edition of the book. The affected collections include stand-alone BOOK and PDF files of the current edition of the book.

  Problems opening PDF files

  • You might experience difficulties viewing PDF files depending on the level of your Adobe Acrobat Reader and your Windows platform. In some cases the file does not display, while in others you get a message that the file is being repaired and then it displays. If you have problems, try using a different level of the Adobe Acrobat Reader. You can install an Adobe Acrobat Reader from the collection, or you can download them from the Adobe Web site.

If you are having trouble viewing a PDF file on a CD or the Internet, try downloading the file and viewing it from your hard drive.

 Cross-book linking for older books

  • Cross-book links might not work from old, unchanged books to more recent books. Many bookshelves contain a mix of recent softcopy books and some older softcopy books. Most old softcopy books containing cross-book links are not updated to point to more recent editions of the books they link to. As a result, the links work only for the specific back-level editions that the links point to. When you open one of these old softcopy books from a bookshelf that does not contain the back-level editions the links point to, the links to these back-level books fail.
