What's in a collection?
Each collection in the IBM Online Library contains books and tools you need to use the books.

Books

Most collections contain books in BookManager format, organized into bookshelves. The bookshelves contain the books that make up a product library or sets of books that are related by platform, task, subject, and so on.

Tools

Each collection contains tools to help you make effective use of the softcopy books. Multidisc collections include a separate tools disc. The tools include:

  • A program to install the softcopy tools that are included on the collection. The program checks your computer and recommends the tools that you should install, then installs the tools you select.

  • A softcopy collection index that lists all the bookshelves and books in the collection. In addition, each disc that contains books also includes a disc index that lists all the bookshelves and books on that disc.

  • Online booklets that describe what is in the library and how to use it.

  • The IBM Softcopy Reader, for viewing online books that are in BookManager format. This reader can read online books on the IBM Online Library CD-ROMs and DVDs, and also online books that you build yourself using the BookManager BUILD programs or that you receive from companies other than IBM. The IBM Softcopy Reader runs on Windows 95 or later or Windows NT or later.

  • The IBM SoftCopy Librarian, which helps you transfer BookManager softcopy books and bookshelves from CD-ROM, DVD, or an enabled Internet site and manage them in a repository on a mainframe, a LAN, or a PC.

  • An Adobe Acrobat Reader, for viewing and printing PDF files.
