msys for Setup

Self-configuring support

z/OS Managed System Infrastructure for Setup (msys for Setup) is part of a major ease-of-use initiative within IBM, and is the strategic solution for product customization.

The IBM autonomic computing initiative msys for Setup participates in the IBM autonomic computing initiative and is an approach to reduce the complexity associated with function enablement, setup and configuration.

msys for Setup allows the use of consistent interfaces with wizard-like configuration dialogs that provide defaults and best-practice values whenever possible and derive low-level values from answers to high-level questions.

After the configuration parameters have been specified, msys for Setup can automatically update the system configuration directly. The user can see in detail what the changes will be before they are made. This also relieves the user of the intricacies of the multitude of traditional z/OS configuration interfaces, such as parmlib members.

msys for Setup stores its configuration data in a management directory that is based on either z/OS LDAP (requiring DB2) for all msys releases, or IBM Directory Server 5.1 on Windows (z/OS R4 and higher). It will become the central repository for all configuration data.

Explore this site, or contact us, for more information on enhancements to the msys for Setup framework, like the brand new, full-function workplace demonstration, or a list of the z/OS components that already use msys for Setup for their setup (known as exploiters).
