Title: 3D prestack seismic migration on IBM AIX 5L and POWER5 servers
Abstract: This paper describes key aspects of hardware and software configurations that exploit IBM AIX 5L and the IBM POWER5 technologies delivered on the IBM eServer p5 and pSeries architecture. epos 3 Second Edition is a comprehensive seismic processing software package from Paradigm Geotechnology BV, and is used to generate performance measurements presented in this document.
This paper also describes some of the most common types of prestack migration algorithms and their significance to processing seismic data and imaging the earth’s subsurface. Additionally, performance data and analysis is presented that demonstrates the advantages and value of utilizing AIX 5L and the eServer p5 platform for 3D PSTM (prestack time migration) and PSDM (prestack depth migration) processing.
