  Case Study
Swedish Defense Department

The Swedish Defense Department tried both Microsoft Exchange, then Netscape Messenger before throwing them both overboard for Lotus Notes and Domino.

On January 12, Computer Sweden reported that Swedish Defense had migrated from Outlook to Netscape Messenger for security reasons. "All units have been ordered to de-install Outlook and Exchange servers," the publication stated, and the reason behind the decision was the risk of virus attacks.

Fulfills security and collaboration needs

Now neither Microsoft nor Netscape will deliver messaging to the Swedish Defense, according to Colonel Jan Petersson. "Lotus is the only alternative that fulfills our requirements for security and offers a satisfactory solution for collaboration," he says.

Approximately 10.000 employees will use the solution for e-mail, scheduling, task delegation and real-time conferences and collaboration.
