IBM Retail Systems Management – the world’s first data-class systems management solution for the retail industry now offers remote power “on” and “off”, or Wake on LAN (WOL), that enables retailers to reduce energy consumption for point-of-sale and self service systems when not in use. A new version of Remote Management Agent (RMA), announced by IBM today, expands the ability of the systems management solution to proactively schedule and maintain a store’s power policies from one central location.
The new version of RMA, also for the first time, allows retailers to manage the IBM 4690 operating system with the same features, functions used to manage IBM servers, point-of-sale, and self service solutions. Retailers with IBM 4690 OS can improve systems uptime and satisfy customers with shorter lines through RMA Resource Monitoring. This feature records, graphs and sets thresholds of critical system resources, including fans, temperatures, and voltages, enabling stores to follow rules for optimum, yet power-saving use of their equipment.
Remote Management Agent also can save energy, and transportation dollars for retailers with enterprise software distribution. The new IBM 4690 support provides software distribution so that applications can be added or updated on one system, or multiple systems in hundreds of stores, simultaneously. By providing a consolidated view of hardware and software status from a single dashboard, RMA can schedule software events and carry them out remotely, without the high cost of on-site visits.
Remote Management Agent, along with the other components that make up the powerful retail solution, is available at no additional charge as part of the IBM Retail Store portfolio, including POS, self checkout, kiosks, printers and devices. By enabling retailers to improve operational efficiency, increase employee productivity and enhance the customer experience, the IBM retail systems management solution plays a pivotal role in underlining the company’s commitment to helping retailers lower their total cost of technology ownership.
