IBM introduces new modular versions of select Point-of-Sale keyboards used with its most popular and world-leading platforms—the IBM SurePOS 700, 500 and 300 and with the IBM AnyPlace Kiosk. These new units, announced on June 17 will be available to customers worldwide in August.
These modular keyboards, which are new models of two current IBM POS keyboards, used in Retail customer environments around the world, and a new 67-key POS keyboard, include:
- IBM Modular ANPOS, a new version of the ANPOS (alpha-numeric POS) keyboard that will have a more flexible configuration allowing it to be used with a broader set of applications across multiple IBM POS platforms. The new Modular ANPOS includes optional security and touchpad/pointer features.
- IBM Modular CANPOS, a new version of the CANPOS (compact alpha-numeric POS) a smaller keyboard valuable in Retail environments where counter and work space is at a premium.
- The Modular CANPOS also includes optional security and touch pad/pointer. A new Modular 67-key POS Keyboard provides more input flexibility for customers and application providers who require additional functions and applications for their POS operations.
New features provide flexibility, ease of use
The new modular keyboards provide a range of additional features and functions that will allow Retail customers such as department store chains, grocery chains and smaller format retailers such as specialty stores and convenience stores to add capability to their IBM Point-of-Sale systems.
The keyboards are all more flexible, easier to use and include optional features such as a combined touch pad and pointer for improved data entry and faster transaction times. An important new fingerprint reader provides increased security in credit transactions. The keyboards also include optional standard IBM keyboard features such as Magnetic Stripe Readers (MSR) and keylocks.
All three new keyboards have been designed for easy upgrading with new capabilities, easier servicing and simplified customization and adaptability to allow clients to respond to changing operational requirements.
