AUSTIN, TX - 04 Mar 2002: IBM today announced that three new security vendors, Network Associates, NFR Security and Secure Computing Corporation, have joined the growing list of providers that support Tivoli Risk Manager, IBM's threat management software platform that helps organizations guard against internal and external threats, attacks and vulnerabilities.
IBM and other leading security vendors are collaborating to increase interoperability between security technologies, including anti-virus software, intrusion detection systems and firewalls, and enterprise threat management software, presenting customers with a more comprehensive enterprise security system.
"True end-to-end security requires industry-wide involvement, and these vendors' working to make interoperable solutions can foster a new level of security and safety for the enterprise faced with a constant barrage of internal and external security threats," said Chris Christiansen, Internet Infrastructure and Security Software Program Vice President, IDC.
Tivoli Risk Manager allows organizations to manage security information centrally from a broad range of security products, including anti-virus, intrusion detection systems, firewalls, as well as other systems across the e-business that affect security, such as Web servers, routers, operating systems and more.
"The collaboration exhibited today marks an important stage in the security industry as we're faced with the mission of combating increasing numbers of threats and more complex, coordinated cyber-attacks," said Arvind Krishna, vice president of security products, Tivoli Software, IBM Software Group. "IBM will continue to build on our vision of a threat management software platform that interoperates with a broad range of security and e-business systems."
The new interoperability in Tivoli Risk Manager includes support for Network Associates' McAfee Active Virus Defense (AVD) product suite, NFR Network Intrusion Detection systems and Secure Computing's Sidewinder firewall and VPN gateway. The new support enables the correlation of alerts, immediate attack response and proactive diagnosis and assessment of the state of these security technologies with other security technologies in the enterprise.
"IBM's software provides a powerful solution to manage and correlate security information across our firewalls, Web servers, routers and intrusion detection systems," said Fumito Nakanishi, Lead System Engineer, Banking Business Information Systems, Fuji Research Institute Corporation. "This centralized view of our security helps us make more intelligent decisions about the current state of our security and manage the complexity and administrative costs associated with protecting ourselves."
"Advanced anti-virus technology from McAfee Security works in tandem with Tivoli Risk Manager to secure enterprise customers from costly virus and malicious code outbreaks," said Arvind Narain, senior vice president of products and services for McAfee Security, a division of Network Associates (NET). "McAfee's interoperability with Tivoli Risk Manager provides IT administrators with comprehensive control over the corporate anti-virus and security policy, enabling administrators to update McAfee anti-virus nodes from one central location."
Tivoli Risk Manager already supports security and e-business products from vendors such as: Apache Software Foundation, Argus Systems Group, Check Point Software Technologies, Cisco Systems, ClickNet Security Technologies, Gilian Technologies, IBM, iPlanet International, Internet Security Systems (ISS), Lockstep Systems, Microsoft Corp., Red Hat, Sun, Symantec, ZoneLabs and more.
"An integrated security solution is most effective when the firewalls, intrusion detection sensors, and other security solutions can work together in a coordinated fashion to minimize threats and attacks," said Jack Reis, chief executive officer, NFR Security, Inc. "With NFR Intrusion Detection systems as a first line of defense working with Tivoli Risk Manager, enterprises have the potential to reduce vulnerabilities and exposures across the e-business."
"Interoperability among security vendors helps make the vision of comprehensive security management a reality, while giving customers the flexibility to choose the best-of-breed security technology that will best protect their enterprise," said Chris Peterson, vice president of OEM and channel sales, Secure Computing (SCUR).
IBM's threat management platform, Tivoli Risk Manager, is a component of IBM's Safety and Security Initiative, marshalling global resources to meet the heightened focus on securing the enterprise. IBM, the leading global information technology systems integrator, is providing customers with comprehensive solutions for their diverse and complex safety and security needs by leveraging IBM Tivoli security management software; products and services from IBM Business Partners and innovative technologies from IBM Research.
