IBM To Manage Carlsberg’s IT Infrastructure and Services

Copenhagen - 30 Jun 2005: ; Carlsberg, one of the world's leading brewing groups and maker of one of the best known global beer brands, today announced a 7-year deal under which IBM will manage Carlsberg's IT infrastructure and services across 12 of the company's wholly owned subsidiaries in Europe.

IBM will be responsible for all of Carlsberg's facility management services that support the brewing group's administrative solutions and networks. Carlsberg's current IT infrastructure includes 800 servers placed in five data centres serving 12,000 users located in 200 sites across Europe.

Included in the agreement is the creation of a uniform IT platform across Carlsberg's companies in Europe. Carlsberg has grown through several acquisitions in recent years, and the creation of a standard platform will enable it to further consolidate and grow its business, enabling a faster response to consumer demand and changes in the market.

The new consolidated setup will allow Carlsberg to implement uniform administrative solutions across its European offices. The solution will also provide access to enhanced common collaboration functions as well as VoIP telephony with scope for new technological solutions in the future. IBM will also increase IT security and service levels by providing support for the new solutions through its network of IT professionals throughout Europe.

"IBM offered the best combination of cost savings, service and flexibility," says Vice President IT, Torben Melskens of Carlsberg.

"This agreement underlines IBM's expertise in providing solutions that allow clients such as Carlsberg to innovate and expand across borders and bring that vision to life quickly and with demonstrable business results," says Sven Kolstrup, Country Executive for IBM Global Services in Denmark. "With our deep knowledge of the consumer products industry, we are helping Carlsberg to use technology to support its business strategy."

As part of the agreement approximately 85 Carlsberg IT staff across Europe will move to IBM.
