IBM Announces Software to Help Bank Branches Manage Technology, Shave Costs and Improve Productivity

Somers, NY - 23 Nov 2004:   IBM today unveiled new software that will help retail bankers lower operating costs and more easily manage software used by their branches around the globe. 

Many bank branches are expensive to maintian. The challenge for banks is to keep operational costs low even while they transform the local branch into a full-fledged avenue for reaching and selling to new and existing customers.

So that banks can improve coordination and streamline the operation of their branches, IBM is today announcing Client Administrator for IBM Workplace Client Technology, V1.0, which helps banks more quickly and cost effectively use and manage new software applications.  For example, if a bank with branches around the globe needs to deploy different applications to support varying regulatory requirements, the Client Administrator provides the capability to assign access to applications from a central location, eliminating the need for skilled technical resources in each branch to manage the job.  In addition, the Client Administrator has the capability to restrict access to network resources from individual workstations to improve security.

This new product incorporates IBM Workplace Client Technology, a programming platform that enables software developers to create rich, client-side applications to deliver all the functionality of a local desktop client, coupled with improved manageability and easier deployment. Linux, J2EE, Eclipse and other open-standard toolkits and operating systems are supported. IBM Business Partners - the industry's leading application vendors such as S1 Corporation. and Chordiant -- are already using this technology as they develop next-generation banking applications.

The Client Administrator is an important new element of the IBM Middleware Solution for Banking Branch Transformation, a portfolio that includes offerings that help build applications; create stable, secure infrastructures and more effectively manage distributed branch networks.
 
IBM Workplace for Branch Banking, another new software offering, provides role-based desktop workplaces for branch managers, tellers and sales staff to simplify and personalize their interactions with relevant information, collaboration tools and applications. IBM Workplace for Branch Banking allows the branch manager to have access to branch performance indicators, and incentive and sales-campaign management tools to increase sales. Tellers and sales officers have a holistic view of complete customer information, tools for cross-selling and access to other job related information that will help translate their improved productivity into revenue.

These new solutions are part of a broad suite of innovative IBM and partner solutions on display at BAI's Retail Delivery Conference, November 16 - 19 in Las Vegas. IBM's booth, "Innovations for Smarter Banking" will showcase next-generation offerings, allowing bankers to envision how their branches will operate in the On Demand era - an era of "smart banks," paperless checking, streamlined customer interactions, more efficient marketing and integrated back- and front-office operations.
