SAN FRANCISCO, CA - 10 Nov 2004:
The IBM ThinkPad T42p mobile workstation has been selected by the editors of CNET as the central information hub for the Clever Homes' NowHouse demonstration home, on display at SBC Park through Dec. 20. The ThinkPad works with the integrated home network system to monitor household functions such as energy usage, security, lighting and music.
NowHouse is a functional demonstration home designed to educate builders and homebuyers about the environmental benefits and advantages of safe, advanced, green, affordable, sustainable materials. The two-story, 2,400-square-foot dwelling costs about $100,000 to build. Clever Homes, a San Francisco-based construction systems company, called on CNET Networks to help create the home's digital home network. The ThinkPad T42p is typically located in the home's office and supports multiple tools, including a fax machine, scanner, photocopier, pocket PC, router and VoIP phone service. Wireless-enabled and offering up to 7.5 hours of battery life, the T42p can be used wirelessly throughout NowHouse. The ThinkPad T42p features ThinkVantage Technologies that help protect against viruses, hackers and spyware; help recover data, information and applications after a software failure; and help simplify connections to wired and wireless networks. For more information about the NowHouse, see www.nowhouse.org.
