IBM E-mail Security Management Services Helps Mitigate E-mail Communication Risks

New Service Helps Reduce Spam, Viruses and Unwanted Content

ARMONK, NY - 18 Jun 2004: IBM today announced E-mail Security Management Services, a new managed security service designed to help companies reduce the risks inherent with e-mail communications.

Founded on advanced technology and intelligence from MessageLabs Inc., one of the leading email security providers, the solution is delivered over a robust and resilient global infrastructure. IBM's E-mail Security Management Services acts as a company's first line of defense by scanning e-mail and helping to reduce threats such as viruses, spam and other unwanted content before they infiltrate an organization.

The offering, available in all geographies, has recently been deployed by Eden, a software provider, and IBM Premier Partner.

"We estimate that five percent or more of total employee production hours are spent deleting unwanted, unsolicited messages, and constantly battling attacks from viruses," said Jayme McRee vice president, Sales and Marketing, Eden. "The volume of spam and virus-laden emails had become detrimental to efficient business operations. By leveraging the email security services from IBM and MessageLabs, our email volume, comprised largely of nonbusiness related email, dropped by over 95 percent. That's money in our pocket."

"E-mail has become a primary form of communications between businesses and their customers, and protecting it is very important," said Michel Bobillier, global offering executive, IBM Global Services. "With IBM's Managed Security Services, we have been helping customers manage their network security for years. Now, we are able to extend that on demand security capability beyond the customer's network and help prevent unwanted e-mail content even before it reaches a customer's network."

IBM's E-mail Security Management Services scans and monitors inbound and outbound email outside the customer network to help prevent uncontrolled distribution of harmful and unwanted content. Services include:
