IBM and Japan’s Nisshin Steel Sign Outsourcing Services Contract

IBM to manage Nisshin Steel’s IT services

ARMONK, NY - 23 Jan 2004: Nisshin Steel Co Ltd, Japan's market leader in stainless steel, announced a 10-year outsourcing agreement with IBM for the management of its IT services.

The decision to outsource is Nisshin Steel's response to the accelerating change in its internal and external business environments, and the need to increase the quality and efficiency of the company's IT-related business activities to support its corporate strategy.

The agreement covers the management of all IT service functions including systems development, operations and maintenance.

Mr. Kazuhisa Obama, Executive Officer and General Manager, General Administration Department, Nisshin Steel, said, "To enhance Nisshin Steel's IT planning functions and to realize our IT strategies, we will reinforce our system development functions and increase the quality and efficiency of system operations, through this partnership."

According to Mr Takao Endoh, General Manager, Industrial Sector Services, IBM Global Services Asia Pacific, "Nisshin Steel will leverage IBM's cutting-edge technologies and services capabilities to ensure that their business can respond to the rapidly changing environment within which it operates."

"Nisshin Steel recognises that IT Outsourcing is an excellent strategy to use IT as an enabler to transform business and improve efficiencies," he said.
