White Plains, New York & Paris, France - 26 Nov 2003: IBM today announced that the new IBM ThinkPad T41p, the thinnest and lightest mobile workstation on the market, and the ThinkPad R50p, with a ThinkPad FlexView 15-inch display, have both received CATIA V5 certification from Dassault Systèmes. This hardware certification program ensures that certified hardware, combined with the world's leading collaborative product development application, will deliver optimal power and graphic quality to the user.

IBM's recently announced ThinkPad notebook computers are designed to meet the high-performance needs of workstation users, combining the mobility of a ThinkPad notebook with high-speed graphic performance and superior wireless and security capabilities. The ThinkPad T41p and R50p set a new mobile-workstation standard for engineers, digital content creators and any professional with industrial-strength graphics-crunching needs. Both ThinkPads are equipped with the IBM Active Protection System - similar to the technology used to deploy airbags, useful in case of a fall - and offer additional security when transporting the lightweight machines.

Bob Galush, vice president, product marketing, IBM Personal Computing Division, said, "The ThinkPad T41p and R50p Mobile Workstations were created with the mobile engineering professional in mind. These platforms are optimized to run the most graphics-intensive development applications while offering PLM users the freedom and flexibility to leave the workplace to create and design whenever and wherever they want."

The ThinkPad T41p and the ThinkPad R50p are certified by Dassault Systèmes, developer of the core applications of the IBM Product Lifecycle Management portfolio, to operate powerful engineering software applications.

"Dassault Systèmes has given both the ThinkPad T41p and R50p CATIA V5 Certification because they are robust enough to support CATIA, the world's leading 3D product development solution," said Alain Nicolas, director V5 Enterprise Architecture, Dassault Systèmes. "Our Certification guarantees that hardware will enable users to take full advantage of the power of Dassault Systèmes' V5 solutions."

The ThinkPad R50p and T41p mobile workstations feature some of the most advanced technology available in the industry, including the 1.7 GHz (1) Intel Pentium-M processor. These new notebooks also offer some of the strongest graphics capabilities available in a mobile PC, with the ATI Mobility FireGL T2 graphics card with 128MB video RAM for the most demanding 3D applications. Optimized for connectivity, both mobile workstations include Intel Centrino mobile wireless technology.

Both the new ThinkPad R50p and T41p mobile workstations are available through www.ibm.com and select business partners.
