NEW YORK - 25 Jun 2002: IBM today announced it has acquired all the shares of Metamerge, a leading provider of directory integration software. Metamerge is a privately-held company based in Oslo, Norway.
The acquisition closed yesterday. Financial details were not disclosed.
IBM acquired Metamerge to add directory integration to its portfolio of software that helps customers integrate all aspects of their e-business operations, including data, applications, business processes and portals. Metamerge will be integrated immediately into IBM Software Group and Metamerge products are available today from IBM.
A directory is a database optimized to store and retrieve user, resource and other key network information. Directory integration aggregates this information, which is stored across both directories and databases, provided by multiple software vendors and which runs on a variety of operating systems. Metamerge specializes in directory integration software, including metadirectory tools, and is a key enabler for IBM security products.
According to Gartner, more than 70 percent of firms with more than 1,000 desktops will implement metadirectory technology by 2005. Metadirectories connect data from disparate sources across an organization.
The comprehensive and accurate directory infrastructure created by Metamerge is a key integration enabler across IBM's four software brands - WebSphere, DB2, Lotus and Tivoli - and with the acquisition IBM is uniquely positioned to deliver the most comprehensive integration infrastructure software at every step in a customer's e-business transformation.
"Combining Metamerge's leading-edge directory integration technology with IBM's strong directory offerings, unmatched integration portfolio, support for multiple operating system environments, including Linux, and 24/7 support is the best possible approach for our customers," said Ambuj Goyal, general manager, Solutions and Strategy, IBM Software Group.
"The value to our customers of Metamerge's creative and technical leadership with the powerful backing of the IBM organization, and its deep understanding of business integration, is unbeatable. This announcement is also great news for Metamerge business partners who can look forward to building on the solid relationships we have established," said Paul Brennan, CEO, Metamerge.
