ARMONK, N.Y. - 01 Oct 2003: IBM extended its leadership in IT Outsourcing, according to just-released numbers from IDC's analysis of the top U.S. and worldwide outsourcers in 2002.
IBM Global Services tops the worldwide market capturing more than $15.3 billion in revenue and a 22.4% share, up from an industry-leading $11 billion in revenue and a 17.3 % share the previous year, according to IDC. The company also leads the U.S. market with more than $7.6 billion in revenue and a 25% share, up from an industry-leading $5.5 billion and an 18.9% share the previous year, IDC said.
The report "Worldwide and U.S. IS Outsourcing Services Competitive Analysis, 2003: Top 10 Worldwide and U.S. IS Outsourcers" places IBM over EDS and CSC, which came in second and third place, respectively, in both the US and Worldwide markets; and over tier two vendors such as HP, which remained flat at 1.8% market share worldwide.
"IBM knows the business of outsourcing and the important role it plays in each company's business strategy," said Richard Horton, general manager, IBM strategic outsourcing. "It enables companies to offload more of their technology systems and processes so they can focus on their business priorities. The companies we work with obviously recognize this as a valuable part of their business strategies."
