Application Hosting For SAP Solutions, Siebel Systems And WebSphere(R) Helps Customers Speed Deployment At A Lower Cost

ARMONK, NY - 22 Jul 2002: IBM today announced that it will expand its application hosting capabilities to include new solutions from SAP, Siebel Systems and IBM WebSphere®. The expanded IBM Application Hosting Service enables customers of all sizes to deploy applications faster and more cost effectively over the Internet.

IBM Application Hosting Services provide businesses with an alternative to building and running their technology infrastructure in-house by tapping into computer systems in IBM data centers worldwide to provide sophisticated management of software applications. With today's introduction of Application Hosting for SAP, Siebel Systems and WebSphere Commerce, IBM adds a standardized delivery environment as an option for customers. The standardized option uses existing IBM infrastructure, personnel and management expertise to help businesses lower costs and eliminate the complexity inherent in deploying sophisticated software.

Things Remembered, the largest personalized gift chain in the U.S. with 777 stores nationwide, is using IBM's Application Hosting capabilities to run its Web site ( http://www.thingsremembered.com). The company has migrated to the IBM eServer iSeries, IBM's mainframe-class server, running IBM's DB2 Database software and WebSphere Commerce located at IBM's e-business Hosting Center in Raleigh, North Carolina.

"WebSphere Commerce in an application hosting model provides Things Remembered with a flexible infrastructure that can respond to peak holiday shopping periods," said Mark Fodor, director of e-business at Cole National, the parent company of Things Remembered. "The combination of WebSphere Commerce and the IBM eServer iSeries in this unique hosted model offers us unrivaled reliability, value and performance.

"Extending on its strategic relationships with SAP and Siebel, IBM is combining its unique level of expertise in Web hosting and critical business applications with a rich set of infrastructure services to deliver the most complete solution to customers," said Jim Corgel, general manager, IBM e-business Hosting. "Global implementation of these offerings, plus IBM Application Hosting for WebSphere®, enables customers to deploy a common and consistent solution around the globe and experience the same level of quality support worldwide."
