IBM Drives Fenner to New Heights

ThinkVantage Technologies Reduce PC Recovery Time by 90 Percent

MANHEIM, Pa. - 25 Sep 2003: IBM announced today that Fenner Drives, a leading global manufacturer of industrial belting, power transmission and motion control components, has reduced support time for PC recovery by approximately 90 percent by using IBM RapidRestore software, a ThinkVantage Technology.

Fenner Drives, a mid-size business with 300 employees, has each IBM desktop and ThinkPad notebook loaded with RapidRestore software, allowing for the backup and then quick recovery of the PC system environment in case of an emergency, such as a virus or software crash. If the system becomes inoperable because of software problems, a single key launches a simple program that lets the user restore the operating environment to the last saved, customized working condition.

Like many other mid-size businesses, Fenner Drives has a limited information technology staff. Focused on remaining a fully integrated and cost-efficient company, Fenner Drives expects RapidRestore software to reduce the total lifecycle cost of its PCs. According to industry analysts, costs associated with deployment, support and disposal account for approximately 80 percent of the entire PC lifecycle cost.

With help from IBM ThinkVantage Technologies, Fenner Drives has reduced the amount of time spent reformatting a corrupt system, previously from three to four hours, to having a completely restored system in approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Rapid Restore allows small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) to invest less money in their information technology support by empowering employees with the ability to fix many software failures without having to resort to a help desk. IBM RapidRestore software was given five stars and a Best Buy Award in the September 2003 issue of Laptop magazine. Laptop magazine said, "nothing fazes this stellar solution from IBM."

"We chose IBM for many reasons - pricing, competitive advantage, their ThinkVantage Technologies - but their sales staff far exceeded our company's expectations," said Jon Blomeier, PC and Network Support Technician, Fenner Drives. "They were committed to our specific needs as a medium-sized business."

Fenner Drives, using PC Connection as a business partner, currently deploys IBM desktops and ThinkPad notebooks in both of its United States locations: Manheim, Pennsylvania and Wilmington, North Carolina.
