IBM Outgrows Revenue in Worldwide UNIX and Intel-based Servers; Takes Market Share Across the Board

Armonk, NY - 22 Nov 2002: IBM's share of worldwide server revenue grew 2.1 points in the third quarter of 2002 compared with the third quarter of 2001 - the largest revenue share gain of any vendor, according to the just-released Gartner Dataquest Worldwide server quarterly statistics.

In addition, IBM's share of worldwide UNIX revenue rose 3.8 points in the third quarter of 2002 from the same quarter a year ago, while all other major vendors lost share.

IBM also was the fastest growing major vendor in Intel-based servers with a revenue market share gain of 3.7 points in the third quarter of 2002 compared to the same quarter of a year ago.

"Our revenue share gains demonstrate that customers are responding to IBM eServer innovative technologies with a focus on open standards and integrated solutions that meet the needs of an on demand infrastructure," said Mark Shearer, IBM vice president eServer product marketing.
