ARMONK, N.Y. - 01 Jun 2009: IBM (NYSE: IBM) announced today that, according to a new Gartner report(1), it remained the top server vendor in 1Q09, holding 30.7 percent revenue market share to 28.2 percent for its nearest competitor.
IBM outperformed all vendors in the quarter, gaining 1.4 market share points, according to Gartner.
It was the fourth consecutive quarter that IBM led the market in Gartner's report on worldwide server revenue.
For the first quarter of 2009, Gartner reported the following:
- In the market for UNIX servers, IBM added 2.1 points of market share and held the lead, at 35.3 percent. This was 8.6 percent higher than the second-place vendor in 1Q09.
- IBM held the No. 1 position for the past four quarters in the market for servers costing over $250,000, with 35.2 percent share in 1Q09.
- IBM was No. 1 in the Americas and Asia Pacific in 1Q09, garnering 34 percent, and 39 percent revenue share respectively in those geographies according to Gartner.
