London, UK - 19 Mar 2009: Donovan Data Systems (DDS), a leading systems and software provider to the marketing communications industry, has selected the IBM (NYSE: IBM) System z10 mainframe to drive future growth.
DDS processes millions of transactions every day, supporting marketing communications companies, advertisers and media owners around the world in their media buying and research, creative workflow and financial management. The new IBM System z10 improved processing times by more than 16% in the first month alone, helping DDS to offer operating efficiencies to clients.
"The IBM mainframe, combined with the IBM System Storage DS8000 disk system, provides us with greater capacity and processing power, more memory and sophisticated features, as well as a smaller carbon footprint, putting us in a good place to meet our clients' needs in the data-intensive digital age," says Ray Lear, operations director. "In addition to speed, we also selected the IBM System z10 because of its reliability, resilience and ease of maintenance."
Advertising agencies are fundamentally re-engineering their businesses using a combination of new workflows and eCommerce. The overall productivity increase is radical and of a scale otherwise almost unseen in a business services environment.
Demand for processing continues to grow: DDS has seen the number of transactions increase by 45% in the last three years, and by 100% in the last seven.
"Despite the current softening of industry billings, the number of transactions continues to rise, and we believe it's vital to invest in new technology so that we fully support our clients as they tackle the challenges that the digitisation of advertising is bringing with it," says Henry Lawson, DDS president.
"Handling a rapidly growing amount of business information in a shorter time is critical for DDS in continuing to deliver a high quality service to its clients" said Richard Parrott of IBM. "The IBM team has worked closely with DDS to create a very reliable business solution."
DDS currently runs z/OS and Linux. Linux on IBM System z combines the advantages of IBM mainframes with the flexibility and open standards of Linux operating systems. Linux plays a major role in the simplification of IT infrastructure, not only because it helps simplify business integration through the use of open and industry standards, but also because it supports deployment of new solutions more quickly and accelerates time to market.
The IBM System z and DS8000 disk system were installed in late December 2008.
