"Virtually" Virtual Worlds -- IBM to the Rescue

LONDON - 07 Oct 2008: What do you do when the Virtual Worlds Forum Show is displaced physically -- have a "virtual" Virtual Forum. That's exactly what happened in London yesterday.

After a shooting at the nightclub that was to host the Virtual Worlds Forum, the facility became a crime scene and the event was homeless. IBM (NYSE: IBM) stepped up and offered its Virtual Business Center in Second Life as a refuge for displaced avatars -- and the Forum planners accepted.

Kevin Aires, a global web strategist at IBM, quickly set up some space, including some trade stands, and avatars began filing in for virtual coffee. IBM broadcast the event live on-line, including Aires' "Boris in Wonderland" chat show, for those that didn't wish to enter Second Life. Visitors were also able to tour the new Virtual Green Data Center exhibition.

You can read more about this on the Virtual Worlds forum blog or view a quick trailer video at http://www.mogulus.com/borisinwonderland -- click "on-demand" and select "vwf" (virtual world's forum).
