Postbank Selects IBM's Latest z10 Mainframe for Infrastructure Simplification

Higher Performance and Scalability of System z10 Allow Further Consolidation in Postbank's Data Center, Combined With High Availability

FRANKFURT, GERMANY and STUTTGART, GERMANY - 24 Sep 2008: Postbank AG, one of Germany's biggest financial services institutions, will be installing three new IBM (NYSE: IBM) System z10 mainframes, IBM and Postbank AG announced today. The higher performance of these systems compared to their predecessors will allow Postbank to further consolidate tasks and applications in their data center onto the mainframe platform, as part of a new enterprise model.

Postbank is a long-time IBM mainframe client. After having consolidated IBM z900 mainframes onto bigger z990s in the past, now the current generation of IBM System z10 will be integrated into their IT infrastructure for even further consolidation and energy efficiency. The IBM mainframes will be part of a major consolidation initiative within Postbank, underlining their core banking strategy and extending their technological competitive advantage.

"For us, the new IBM System z10 mainframe represents a highly efficient platform for our core-banking," says Manfred Loew, Managing Director, responsible for IT operations at Postbank Systems AG. "The new mainframes are highly available and deliver tremendous performance. With their energy efficiency as well, they will contribute greatly to the Green IT orientation of Postbank IT."

"Using our mainframe technology, Postbank is preparing itself to take its enterprise data center to the next level," says Andreas Wrede, IBM Client Executive for Postbank Group. "Today, data centers have to be able to adapt more flexibly to fast changing market and business requirements and more and more clients are looking to IBM and our z10 mainframe -- and our more than 40 years of innovation and flexibility on the mainframe -- as the foundation to help with that adoption. The IBM System z mainframe sets the bar in the entire technology industry. With a centralized IT concept and innovative solutions based on the mainframe platform, Postbank will be able to react 'on demand' to such new demands, under very efficient and economical conditions of the solution."
