AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS - 17 Sep 2008: The Dutch Ministry of Defense and IBM (NYSE: IBM) have signed an agreement to streamline maintenance and logistics processes within the Royal Navy and to set up a centralized armed forces data management system. IBM will be working with Stork Asset Management Solutions and Ordina on the implementation.
The agreement is part of the Ministry of Defense's SPEER program -- the Strategic Program for ERP-Enabled Change.
The agreement for the Royal Navy includes streamlining and integrating the maintenance and logistics processes on ships and within the Navy's operations, based on a reference process model, and a SAP kernel developed by the Defense Department. During this business transformation project, organizational changes, the introduction of new work processes and SAP implementation will be done simultaneously.
The centralized data management system for the armed forces includes designing a shared service center for data management throughout the entire Defense Department based on SAP. Centralized data management is an important foundation for applying one SAP system for all units of the armed forces.
The contract was signed on September 15, 2008.
