ARMONK, NY - 27 Aug 2008: IDC reported today that IBM (NYSE: IBM) continues to hold the number one position in worldwide server revenue share with a 33.2 percent revenue share in the second quarter of 2008 -- surpassing HP with a 5.8 percent gap. IBM also topped the industry with a 27 percent revenue growth in overall servers from first quarter 2008. [1]
For the second quarter, IDC noted that IBM ranked number one across all Unix servers, IDC's server category of $250,000 or more, and the $10,000 or more price point. IDC's server revenue share details include:
- Among all Unix servers, IBM Power Systems generated 35.7 percent revenue share.
- For IDC's category of $250,000 or more servers, IBM System z and other IBM $250,000 plus servers beat the competition with a 37 percent and 24.8 percent revenue share respectively -- taking 61.8 percent of industry's total revenue share.
- For IDC's category of $10,000 or more, IBM obtained 48.4 percent revenue share.
