San Jose, CA - 29 Sep 1998: ... IBM today announced that 13 new software packages aimed at Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have been added to its roster of Netfinity "ServerProven" products -- accessories and software that have been tested and validated to work in specified configurations on IBM Netfinity servers. All of the programs announced today are designed to help ISPs expand the services side of their businesses.

Included in this roster is RealNetworks' Hosting Server, a solution that enables ISPs to add real-time audio and video capability to customer Web sites. Additionally, Netscape's popular Messaging Server is one of the new ServerProven Solutions for ISPs.

"These newly announced ServerProven solutions will help ISPs quickly and easily expand their businesses to offer more higher-margin services such as Web hosting and e-commerce," said Kate Connolly, worldwide director of IBM's Netfinity ServerProven Solutions program. "We will keep our focus on bringing more value-added applications to this market in the months ahead."

Through the ServerProven program, ISPs can receive from IBM an extensive list of compatible software programs and accessories -- including IBM's own powerful e-business solutions as well as other leading industry applications. IBM maintains a worldwide network of Solution Partnership Centers (SPCs) where ISVs can test their Windows NT business solutions on Netfinity servers and work with the company's expert consultants.

"Working with IBM to obtain ServerProven status for our Messaging Server was a pleasure," said Mike Davis, a senior product manager with Netscape. "What impressed us most was the technical capabilities of the SPC support staff. Not only did our contact thoroughly explain to us how to use the systems, but he also quickly resolved a few technical issues that surfaced that day."

"RealNetworks is pleased to be one of IBM's ServerProven solutions for ISPs. With a Netfinity server and RealNetworks' Hosting Server, ISPs can harness the double-digit growth in streaming media to increase traffic and revenues for their customers," said Mark Bretl, VP of Media Systems, RealNetworks.
