IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced breakthrough scalability and performance running the SAP NetWeaver(R) Business Intelligence Accelerator (SAP NetWeaver BI Accelerator) component of the SAP NetWeaver platform on IBM BladeCenter servers.
Extensive testing utilizing generally available products from both companies reveals clients running the SAP NetWeaver Business Intelligence (SAP NetWeaver BI) component can now scale up to 140 IBM BladeCenter servers as needed to improve system response time and more easily manage the exponential growth of information flowing across the enterprise.
"This performance delivers an unprecedented 5x scalability improvement over previous IBM BladeCenter server configurations running SAP solutions based on real-world client environments," said David Gelardi, vice president, Worldwide Advanced Client Technology Centers, IBM Systems & Technology Group. "As a result, our clients can now have increased flexibility and scalability to drive more value from their information assets and be more responsive to customer needs."
Details:
The test included four key performance indicators: 1) index load time, 2) average report and query throughput, 3) average number of records touched per report, and 4) average response time less than five seconds.
The test also included scalability measurements at 5, 15 and 25 terabytes (TB) of InfoCube data.
Test components included the following:
- An SAP NetWeaver BI-based datawarehouse with 25TB of data in InfoCubes, equivalent to over 50 TB of data including customer-created SAP aggregates, imported data from other sources and customer data models
- SAP NetWeaver BI 7.0 and SAP NetWeaver BI Accelerator
- IBM BladeCenter servers
- IBM BI Accelerator servers with Novell SuSe Linux running IBM General Parallel File System (GPFS)
- IBM System p application and System z database servers with IBM DB2
- IBM high-end Storage connected to all servers
Results demonstrate linear scalability at the SAP NetWeaver BI Accelerator Index load of 1.2TB/hour with the number of processed business intelligence reports/queries topping 101.000 at over 160.000 queries per hour. The processed reports peaked up to 37 million records delivering an average response time of just over four seconds.
"SAP NetWeaver BI Accelerator together with IBM's infrastructure is ready to help large enterprises manage future data volumes and user requirements of large enterprises with today's technology," said Thomas Becker, development manager, SAP NetWeaver EIM BI.
Winter Corporation validated the test results and released a detailed white paper. To read the white paper, visit: http://www.wintercorp.com/whitepapers/whitepapers.asp.
"The stress test results provide strong evidence of the capability of the SAP NetWeaver BI Accelerator hosted on IBM systems to deliver the class of scalable performance required to meet demanding BI-related business challenges for the next several years," said Richard Winter, president of WinterCorp.
