Somers, N. Y - 24 Nov 1998: . . . IBM today announced that its AS/400e* series server has set a new record for scalability and performance on J.D. Edwards' OneWorld** enterprise supply-chain management software. OneWorld is one of the industry's leading Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and supply-chain management solutions.
Running OneWorld software, IBM's 12-way AS/400e model 650 achieved a 0.64-second average response time for 1,800 concurrent users, nearly 50 percent better performance than Hewlett Packard's HP 9000 line of enterprise servers, which in September reported a 1.26 second response time for only 1,400 users.
The single IBM AS/400 server, using only 13.3 percent of its CPU (central processor unit) capacity, processed more than 72,000 business transactions combined sales-order and purchase-order line items per hour, taking clear leadership in performance and scalability among small to mid-sized servers in the ERP/supply-chain market segment.
Holding a strong second position was IBM's Netfinity 7000M10 which significantly outperformed Compaq's Intel and Alpha servers and shattered HP 9000 UNIX*** servers results. In addition the Netfinity server performed 40 percent faster than the HP K580 64-bit PA8200 server configuration. These outstanding J.D. Edwards' OneWorld benchmark results place IBM servers in first and second place in one of the industry's most watched benchmarks.
"It's clear that AS/400 has established itself as the best possible platform for running J.D. Edwards' OneWorld software," said Karen Smith, IBM's worldwide AS/400 ERP segment manager. "We didn't just break the record previously reported by Hewlett Packard, we shattered it with a minimum amount of stress to the IBM server. The impressive results we have achieved with this benchmark go a long way in defining the kind of performance and scalability ERP customers can expect from AS/400."
Since the launch of the AS/400e series in August 1997, AS/400e has increased its standings and set records for performance in the industry's most-watched benchmarks, including Client Server Labs RPMark95, NotesBench, and TPC-C.
